the challenge…

The client needed an app to demonstrate their services and the benefits of connectivity in a retail setting.

the brainstorm…

Various ideas were thrown around, but ultimately, the best was a customer loyalty application. The consumer facing app would be the counterpart to an employee version. Each would communicate in ways that not only streamlined the shopping experience, but increased the employees ability to assist.

the build…

First, I needed to figure out the flow of things. What was a scenario that lead to the customer needing to open the app? Part of the clients services included Geo-fencing technology, so I began with that. Once the client was within proximity of the retailer, he would receive a push notification.

Once opened, the app shows the customer his current point total, gives him the option to redeem those points and the ability to open recent searches.

Once in recent searches, the customer is shown items they’ve shown interest in. They then have the option to be directed to the item or request assistance from a clerk.

We now get into the clerk side of the app. Once the customer requests assistance, an employee is assigned and alerted. They can either “accept” or “decline” if they are currently helping another customer.

Once accepted, the employee app displays all pertinent customer information and directs them to the customer’s location. Once there, they can check member options or request that the item be pulled and left waiting at the register.
